What is Microneedling?
At our Glen Carbon, Ill, practice near Maryville, we use microneedling as a minimally invasive way to smooth fine lines, reduces pore size, wrinkles, scarring, and stretch marks.
How Does it Work?
Microneedling initiates the skin’s repair process to naturally produce collagen and elastin by creating controlled micro-injuries to the skin with micro-needles. The repair process will begin almost immediately, resulting in a thicker dermis, softened wrinkles, stretchmarks and scars. The Spa at MidAmerica uses an Eclipse MicroPen due to its safety profile, customization, and consistent results. The MicroPen uses sterile single-use surgical grade disposable needle tips, which eliminates the possibility of cross contamination between patients.
The Spa at MidAmerica offers Microneedling to treat the face, neck, and décolletage. It is also available to treat scars and stretchmarks on other areas of the body.
What To Expect
A consult with a provider will take place before Microneedling is performed to ensure you are the right candidate. If you are approved for Microneedling, you will be numbed and receive the 50 minute treatment, which includes a post procedure kit. Prepare to feel sunburned for approximately 24-72 hours, as well as redness that may last up to one week. Results will take 4-6 weeks and will be optimized by receiving a package of 3.
How Long Do Results Last?
Since microneedling helps the body naturally produce collagen and elastin, results seen will be long-lasting. By receiving more than one treatment, your results will be optimized.
Microneeding vs. Derma Rollers
Automated microneedling devices move in a vertical direction for better precision when treating the skin, opposed to the derma rollers that enter the skin at an angle. By entering the skin at an angle, it increases the risk of creating tears in the skin and causing larger micro-channels. To protect safety, it is always recommended to have this procedure done by a professional.
The lack of precision and sterilization issues can contribute to inconsistent effects to the skin, plus the risk of infection when the skin is not antiseptically cleansed.
Microneedling with PRP: The “Vampire Facial”
Microneedling with PRP uses Platelet Rich Plasma to release growth factors into the skin to expedite collagen production. We obtain Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm into a sterile tube. This sample is centrifuged to separate your plasma, which we use for the treatment, from your red and white blood cells. Plasma contains high concentration of platelets, stem cells and growth factors. Platelets help your tissue heal and grow new cells. For this specific procedure, it is used to help damaged, aging skin grow new collagen and elastin for beautiful, youthful results.
