The Next Generation of Fillers with Ashley Noeth, FNP-BC

One of the biggest fears I often hear from patients is that they are afraid of fillers. Why? Because they are worried about looking unnatural or fake. Hyaluronic acid fillers have been used in the aesthetic field since the early 2000’s. Since then, there have been continuous advancements to the technology that goes into making these products. Hyaluronic acid fillers remain one of the most popular types of filler because it is very safe, versatile, and can be dissolved if necessary.

There are two new products that are changing the filler game! Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne. These products received FDA approval for use in the United States in December of 2016 and have quickly become some of my “go to” fillers since they were released.

What makes these fillers different from other hyluronaic acid fillers?

They are made, using the XpresHAn technology. This technology has allowed the products to be more flexible than previous fillers. These products tend to stretch and contract, which allows for a more natural appearance in treatment areas that have a lot of movement, for example, around the mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines). One of my favorite expressions I’ve heard about these fillers is that they are like memory foam, the gel can move and mold with your natural facial movements, but will return to its natural shape.

What is the difference between Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne?

Refyne is more flexible and can be used to treat mild to moderate lines. While Defyne is still flexible, it is thicker than Refyne and can provide better structural support for moderate to severe lines. Both products have a 12 month indication.

Both of these up and coming fillers have allowed me to give my patients natural results for the treatment of nasolabial fold and marionette lines.  Curious if this treatment would be right for you?
