What is a Brow Lift?

In Glen Carbon, Illinois, Dr. Ryan Diederich performs brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, to help patients from Maryville, Edwardsville, and the St. Louis area restore a youthful appearance by tightening the facial structures. Benefits of a Brow Lift

  • Elevate the eyebrows to create a more youthful appearance.
  • Create a more relaxed appearance.
  • Minimize forehead wrinkles and creases that develop over time.
  • Help minimize “frown lines.”
  • Fix a low or saggy forehead.

Options for a Brow Lift

There are different options for placement of the scars from a brow lift. These have different benefits based on the patient’s goals and anatomy and will be discussed during a consultation.

Before the Brow Lift Procedure

Prior to a brow lift procedure at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, you may be asked to:

  • Get lab testing and have a medical assessment completed.
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications, as recommended.
  • Stop smoking well in advance of surgery.
  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding (if OK with your primary care physician. If not, please let us know).
  • Get your pre- and post-surgery checklist.
  • Pre-Op instructions will be provided before the procedure. Please read these thoroughly for additional information.

The day of the Brow Lift Procedure

  • Completed as an outpatient or with hospital stay depending on your particular needs.
  • Nothing to eat or drink the day of surgery.
  • You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

After the Brow Lift Procedure

  • Recovery is patient dependent.
  • After the procedure, your forehead may be wrapped in order to minimize swelling and bruising.
  • Post-Op Instructions will be provided before the procedure. Please keep these close throughout recovery.

Brow Lift Procedure Complications

As with any procedure there are risks. Fortunately, with a brow lift, these risks are minimal. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Unfavorable scarring
  • Bleeding (hematoma)
  • Infection
  • Poor wound healing
  • Anesthesia risks
  • Blood clots
  • Correctable hair loss at the incisions
  • Elevated hairline
  • Facial nerve injury with weakness or paralysis
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Skin loss
  • Numbness or other changes in skin sensation or intense itching
  • Changes in skin sensation
  • Eye irritation or dryness
  • Eyelid disorders that involve abnormal position of the upper eyelids (eyelid ptosis), loose eyelid skin, or abnormal laxness of the lower eyelid (ectropion) can coexist with sagging forehead and eyebrow structures; brow lift surgery will not correct these disorders; additional surgery may be required
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Pain, which may persist
  • Skin contour irregularities
  • Skin discoloration and swelling
  • Sutures may spontaneously surface through the skin, become visible or produce irritation that require removal
  • Possibility of revisional surgery
