Microneedling
Request Your ConsultationWhat is microneedling?
We use the FDA-approved SkinPen for microneedling at our Glen Carbon, IL, practice serving Maryville and Edwardsville, IL, and St. Louis, MO, as a minimally invasive way to smooth fine lines, reduce pore size, wrinkles, scarring, and stretch marks.
How does it work?
Microneedling initiates the skin’s repair process to naturally produce collagen and elastin by creating controlled micro-injuries to the skin with micro-needles. The repair process will begin almost immediately, resulting in a thicker dermis, softened wrinkles, stretch marks and scars. The SkinPen uses sterile single-use surgical grade disposable needle tips, which eliminates the possibility of cross-contamination between patients.
Treatment Areas
The Spa at MidAmerica offers microneedling to treat the face, neck, and décolletage. It is also available to treat scars and stretch marks on other areas of the body.
What to Expect
A consult with a provider will take place before microneedling is performed to ensure you are the right candidate. If you are approved for microneedling, you will be numbed and receive the 50-minute treatment, which includes a post-procedure kit. Prepare to feel sunburned for approximately 24-72 hours, as well as redness that may last up to one week. Results will take 4-6 weeks and will be optimized by receiving a package of 3.
How long do results last?
Since microneedling helps the body naturally produce collagen and elastin, results seen will be long-lasting. By receiving more than one treatment, your results will be optimized.
Microneedling vs. Derma Rollers
Automated microneedling devices move in a vertical direction for better precision when treating the skin, as opposed to the derma rollers that enter the skin at an angle. By entering the skin at an angle, it increases the risk of creating tears in the skin and causing larger micro-channels. To protect your safety, it is always recommended to have this procedure done by a professional.
The lack of precision and sterilization issues can contribute to inconsistent effects to the skin, plus the risk of infection when the skin is not antiseptically cleansed.
