5 Things to know about your Arm Lift Surgery

At MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, we offer several different ways to accomplish your dream body goals. The quest for well-toned arms goes beyond just hitting the gym; sometimes, it requires a little extra help. A brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, improves the appearance of the arms by removing excess skin and fat. Arm lift surgery helps women and men tighten and reshape their arms resulting in a smoother and more toned appearance. Heredity, natural aging, and changes in weight can cause the skin in your arms to droop. This blog will discuss the five things you need to know about an arm lift.

Who may benefit from an arm lift?

Aren’t sure if you would benefit from an arm lift? Arm lifts are performed to: remove excess sagging skin, smooth and tighten tissue, define and shape, or to remove pockets of fat from the arm. If you fall into any of the categories above, you could benefit from an arm lift!

Consultation

At your consultation, you will meet Dr. Diederich as well as one of our Patient Care Coordinators. Together, you will discuss your goals and what your surgical journey will look like. With our team’s help, you will be comfortable and confident when preparing for your procedure.

Before Your Arm Lift

Prior to your surgery, you must go through lab testing or a medical evaluation. To lower your risk of complications, you need to stop smoking six-weeks before your surgery. Finally, avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding (if OK with your primary care physician. If you cannot stop, please let us know).

The Day of Your Surgery

An arm lift can be completed as an outpatient procedure or with a hospital stay depending on your particular needs. The day of your surgery, you can’t eat or drink! Before going into surgery,  you will see Dr. Diederich to go over your recovery. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

After Your Arm Lift

Recovery time varies, but typically, patients should expect bruising, swelling, and discomfort for several weeks post-surgery. You should seek medical attention if you begin to experience: shortness of breath, chest pains, or unusual heartbeats. It’s crucial to follow post-operative care instructions for optimal healing.
