Losing weight can be a challenging journey for many people. Not only does it take time, effort, and a lot of patience to achieve significant weight loss, but many people also struggle with hormone imbalances or genetic factors that can make weight loss even more challenging. Between juggling a career and family life, losing weight can feel like a huge task to undertake, being pushed to the back burner for yet another day. But what if there was a way to make weight loss more manageable and achievable?
This is where MidAmerica Plastic Surgery’s new customized medical weight loss program comes in, featuring two groundbreaking medications: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide!
These medications are part of a new class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists. GLP-1 agonists, such as Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, have been used in FDA-approved, brand name prescription medications for several years. More recently, these medications have been used to aid in weight loss and are now available in compounded formulations to make them more readily available and cost-effective to patients who meet qualifications for treatment.
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide work as an appetite suppressant by delaying how quickly food leaves your stomach, otherwise referred to as gastric emptying, which allows you to feel full faster and for longer periods of time after a meal. These medications also help to reduce inflammation in the body, optimize insulin levels, and regulate blood sugar levels, all of which can further enhance weight loss.
Compounded Semaglutide and Tirzepatide medications, when dosed according to your needs and closely monitored by a qualified provider, is expected to result in an average total body weight loss of 12%-20% by the completion of the treatment.
There are potential side effects associated with these weight loss drugs, most of which will be temporary and carefully managed by your provider to ensure minimal disruption to daily activities. The most common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, indigestion, constipation, and bloating. Other side effects can include headaches, fatigue, dehydration, and dizziness. It is essential to drink plenty of water, consume nutritionally dense meals, and make detailed notes in your weight loss diary that will be provided to you at the start of your journey.
MidAmerica Plastic Surgery’s weight loss program takes a personalized approach and will require mandatory follow-ups. During these follow ups, your provider will conduct body composition measurements, physical examinations, and adjust dosing (as needed) to ensure weight is being lost in a safe and healthy manner, with minimal side effects.
