The transition from summer to fall weather is upon us. As the leaves change and the crisp Autumn air moves in, our skin begins to feel the effects of the chilly air. It’s only October, but you may have noticed the change in weather affecting your skin already i.e., dry hands, chapped lips. With winter on the horizon, fall is a wonderful time to start integrating more hydration into your skincare routine. At The Spa at MidAmerica, we offer complimentary skincare consultations to help find the products that will compliment your skin type best. Understanding your skin and how it responds to weather and various products is a key factor in choosing the products that will work best for you. When you arrive for your skincare consultation, a member of our provider team will help develop a personalized skincare regimen just for you.
Our providers love to educate our patients on the best ways to care for their skin. To help prepare you for the upcoming dry, harsh air of winter, here are a few tips and suggestions from our providers to help your skin stay fresh and glowing this fall.
It may be colder outside…but you still need an SPF.
Let’s start with the most overlooked skincare product: SPF. Yes, you still should be using an SPF in the winter months. Fall and winter are the best seasons to receive your laser and chemical peel treatments, and, in this case, it is especially important to remember your SPF. While there are less UVB rays during the winter, UVA rays are still highly prevalent, which can cause premature aging or even skin cancer. SPF is not just for summer, SPF is forever. Our medical spa offers several types of sunscreen options, including: SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion Sunscreen (also available in matte) and Brightening Defense Sunscreen. Our Spa skincare line also features our Tinted Sunshield and Sheer Fluid Sunshield. Click here to read more about our favorite SPFs!
Chilly air having a drying effect on your skin? Swap or add hydrating products into your skincare regimen.
With cold air and the onset of central heating, our skin can become dry and sensitive. To protect the skin’s barrier, consider trading your lotion for a thicker cream, such as the Epionce Intensive Nourishing Cream or Calming Cream. But wait, hydration doesn’t just stop at your moisturizer. The cleanser you are using can also be contributing to a dry and unhealthy skin barrier. Try switching to a gentle and more hydrating cleanser, such as Epionce Gentle Foaming Cleanser, SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser, or The Spa Calming Cleanser. Hydrating serums can also be a beneficial additive to a skincare regimen, such as SkinCeuticals HA Intensifier or Hydrating B5 Gel, as well as The Spa’s Hydraboost Gel. Layering up products before bed is the best time to get added hydration. Consider sleeping in an overnight mask, such as Epionce’s Enriched Firming Mask (add a pea size of their Medical Barrier Cream for even more hydration) and you won’t be sorry!
Skincare doesn’t stop at the face, don’t forget about your hands and feet! With how reliant we are on these extremities, it’s no wonder that they are some of the driest areas of our bodies. We recommend Epionce Nourishing Hand Cream for your hands; it smells delightful and leaves your hands feeling silky. As for your feet, Baby Foot is our team go-to! Baby Foot is an exfoliation chemical peel for your feet, designed to exfoliate and moisturize at the same time. This foot peel treatment will leave your feet feeling soft and refreshed.
Hydration is more than skin deep. Stay hydrated from the inside-out.
What you put into your body is just as, if not more important, than what you put onto it. Staying hydrated will lead to a stronger, healthier skin barrier. Instead of drinking that second cup of coffee, consider switching to green tea. Green tea has less caffeine than a cup of coffee (which can dehydrate you more) and has antioxidant benefits.
Fall is a great time to treat yourself…book a facial!
The Spa offers a variety of facial services, with our HydraFacial being our most popular option. The HydraFacial is great for all skin types because it combines exfoliation, a light chemical peel, and hydrating serums to give your skin a little TLC. Adding dermaplaning will give you added exfoliation, as well as take off the dead skin cells and peach fuzz on the top layer of your skin. Your provider can also assess your skin during your facial service, make skincare recommendations, and give you samples to try at home!
