Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) and Why Should You Consider It

Individuals in the St. Louis, MO and the Southern IL area looking for a natural, rejuvenating facial treatments need to look no further than The Spa at MidAmerica. Our medical spa is proud to offer a wide variety of spa treatment services and also an extensive line of skincare products. Dr. Ryan Diederich and the spa provider team at The Spa at MidAmerica strive to bring the latest aesthetic trends and techniques to our Glen Carbon, IL office for patients to enjoy.

Our newest treatment at The Spa at Midamerica is Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), a regenerative and volumizing filler, made from your very own blood concentrates. A PRF treatment is excellent for patients who wish to enhance facial volume and symmetry, skin rejuvenation, and reduce the signs of aging. PRF is 100% natural, containing collagen stimulating factors similar to Sculptra, as well as the added volumizing properties of fillers. PRF can also be a powerful add-on to microneedling services. The stimulation from the PRF makes the body produce more collagen and elastin, healing the micro-injuries quicker, while creating a more even skin tone and texture. The difference between PRF being used for filler versus microneedling is how they are prepared and administered. For example, one is an injectable, while the other is applied topically. PRF is natural and made from a natural source, yourself!

PRF treatments require a few additional steps opposed to filler or Sculptra, such as having your blood drawn. Drawing your blood allows your provider to develop an all natural and unique concentration of volumizing proteins and growth factors. After the blood is drawn, it is put in a centrifuge that is spun slower than with PRP (platelet rich plasma). The slower spinning of the PRF allows for fibrin to be extracted and more platelets to remain in the final product, a.k.a. liquid gold! After it’s spun, the blood sample is heated and the liquid PRF is mixed with the plasma. No artificial modifications or anticoagulants are added, as they are with PRP. The difference between using PRF for filler versus microneedling is that it does not need to be heated. It is an all natural filler and collagen stimulator, made solely from your own body.
