What You Should Know Before Getting A Mommy Makeover

Mommy makeover is a lighthearted name for a complex surgery that combines procedures to reverse the physical toll of pregnancy and childbirth. Commonly, a mommy makeover combines breast augmentation and tummy tuck, but this is not always the case. A breast reduction, breast lift, liposuction, and so on can be combined during a mommy makeover procedure and is customizable to your specific goals.

At MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, Dr. Ryan Diederich and our staff are committed to making our patients feel safe and comfortable before, during, and after their procedures. If you’re considering a mommy makeover at our southern Illinois plastic surgery practice, you should understand the nature of the surgery and recovery, so you know what to expect.

You Can Finance Your Mommy Makeover

Financing for plastic surgery procedures is available through CareCredit® and PatientFi®. But even with the availability of financing, are you in a strong enough financial position that it won’t put more stress on your family? The cost of cosmetic surgery is an important issue for anyone considering the procedure. At MidAmerica, we offer a variety of options to aid in financing their cosmetic and medical spa procedures.

Choose Your Timing Carefully

Timing is a critical part of planning your mommy makeover procedure. Your plans to have more children and whether you have stopped breastfeeding are all important factors to consider. You may be telling yourself, “It’s not the right time to have surgery.” We understand life gets busy. However, there will never be a perfect time to undergo surgery. Life may always have obstacles that make you feel as if you shouldn’t go through with your procedure at a certain time. But just think, the sooner you undergo cosmetic surgery, the sooner you will recover, and the sooner you’ll be able to enjoy your results!

Get to a Healthy Weight Before Surgery

Recovery is typically less difficult for patients with good overall health. We recommend that patients with a BMI of 32 or more should wait until that number is lower before getting surgery. Why? Primarily, safety. If your BMI is over 32, your risks during surgery are significantly increased. Secondly, your results may be compromised if your weight fluctuates after surgery. A tummy tuck, for example, removes excess skin. If you lose more weight after your surgery, your stomach may appear loose and saggy again. When you are at or near your goal weight, Dr. Diederich can better optimize your overall result.

We understand that losing weight is sometimes easier said than done. The team at MidAmerica is committed to helping our patients reach their goals, which is why we have teamed up with two local nutritionists in the Glen Carbon, IL area to aid our patients on their journey to a healthier lifestyle. You Can Customize Your Procedure

As we previously mentioned, a mommy makeover is a combination of procedures that can be customized to your specific goals. If you have specific cosmetic concerns, be sure to write them down so that you can address them during your consultation. Writing down your concerns, questions, and any other topics you would like to discuss before meeting with your patient care coordinator will help you feel better and more confident during your consultation. What procedures do you want to include in the surgery? Do you want a breast lift with or without implants? What other concerns do you have? These are all good questions to think about before your first visit.

Have Your Support System in Place

Your decision to undergo cosmetic surgery should be solely based on your goals, not someone else’s. Be sure that you are going through with a procedure because it is something that you want. Support from family and friends is extremely helpful throughout your recovery. A question to ask yourself: Do you have enough help at home for the recovery process?
