When it comes to scheduling corrective treatments for the skin, it is important for medical spa providers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s skin type and concerns. Although the surface of the skin can be assessed quickly and easily by a trained professional, there is a deeper story below the surface that needs telling. Some skin concerns are not visible to the naked eye. VISIA allows our providers to get a better understanding of the skin through in-depth analysis. The image-capture module of the machine rotates around your face to take images of your full facial profile using cross-polarized UV lighting. This innovative lighting allows for surface and subsurface assessment, which will then be analyzed by the system’s software instantly.
VISIA is a useful tool for both patients and providers alike. Its in-depth facial analysis provides insight into skin concerns that you may not have even been aware of. The machine specifically assesses seven features of your skin: wrinkles, UV damage, texture, pores, general spots, brown spots, red areas, and porphyrins (secretions from bacteria that can clog pores and cause blemishes). Having context for what is occurring in the deeper layers of the skin can offer insight that can guide your provider to make skincare and treatment pathway recommendations. The photos remain in your chart on the system, so it is a method of tracking your treatment results as well. Gradual changes to your facial profile have a greater impact when you can see photos side by side throughout the months, or even years!
Another interesting feature of VISIA is providing your “TruSkin Age.” This feature scans the amount of wrinkles, UV damage, and discoloration that is typical for your age. Data is compiled through a vast database of patients, comparing your skin conditions with their results, and determining the respective age of your skin. For example, a 50-year-old patient who has maintained her skincare regimen and religiously remembered her sunscreen may show the TruSkin Age of a 30-year-old. While this may sound intimidating and potentially humbling, take it with a grain of salt. It’s meant to be a useful guide for ideal skincare products and treatments that will work for you, as well as an amazing motivator!
At The Spa at MidAmerica, located in Glen Carbon, Illinois, our VISIA full skin analysis is a complimentary add-on to your treatment. One of our coordinators will assist you in capturing photos on the machine, while you comfortably close your eyes and sit for the scanning process. The photos from your first scan will be your baseline, which is why we make it a priority to capture VISIA photos at the beginning of your treatment journey. Photos will be taken at the end of any series of treatments, such as a series of Forever Young BBL, where you will be able to visually see the results of the time and money you invested.
