Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Diederich, MD.

Hi Ryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

I grew up in the small town of Marion, Illinois, where I first developed an interest in technology and even wrote software before eventually pursuing medicine. After college and medical school, I discovered a passion for plastic surgery and went on to complete an intensive six-year plastic surgery residency. Fourteen years after graduating high school, I finally finished my education and training. As a small-town Midwesterner, I always knew I wanted to put down roots in a community like the ones that helped shape me. What began as a small office has steadily grown over the past 15 years into what MidAmerica Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa is today, and I’m incredibly grateful to serve the region and the people who have supported our journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Like any worthwhile dream, the journey certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. I started from scratch with just a single employee, and along the way I’ve faced many of the challenges that come with building something meaningful. There were cash flow struggles, learning how to manage and lead a growing team, and figuring out how to expand while still maintaining exceptional quality and customer service. I’ve had to learn how to hire the right people, build a culture around ethics, honesty, and integrity, and navigate difficult moments such as the COVID shutdown. At the same time, I’ve remained a very busy plastic surgeon committed to providing excellent care to my patients while also balancing the responsibilities of family and life outside of work. Each challenge has helped shape the practice and the team we have today.

We’ve been impressed with MidAmerica Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

At MidAmerica Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa, our mission has always been to provide exceptional, honest, and ethical care to every patient we serve. In an industry where there can sometimes be too many gimmicks, quick fixes, or treatments promoted simply to generate revenue, we have worked hard to stay grounded in our core principles of honesty, integrity, and doing what is truly best for the patient. We specialize in plastic surgery, as well as advanced aesthetic treatments, but what truly sets us apart is our commitment to education, quality, and thoughtful care. Our entire team is dedicated to continually learning and improving so we can offer some of the best care in the nation while maintaining the trust and values that define who we are. Brand-wise, I’m most proud that our reputation has been built not on hype, but on consistent results, strong relationships with our patients, and a culture that always prioritizes doing the right thing.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?

What matters most to me is that we provide truly exceptional care to every patient who walks through our doors. That means continually investing in education and staying up to date with the latest advancements in our field, while also being thoughtful and critical about what we adopt into our practice. Not every new trend or technology is the right solution, and it’s important to carefully evaluate what will genuinely benefit our patients before moving forward. Equally important is making sure that the entire experience feels seamless and supportive for the patient—from their first interaction with our team to their final results. At the end of the day, it’s about combining expertise, integrity, and an outstanding patient experience.
