MOXI for Melasma

Say hello to Moxi, MidAmerica’s newest addition to their line of powerful lasers! Moxi is a non-ablative fractional laser that gently polishes the skin for a refreshed look, without heavy downtime. One of the main reasons people choose MOXI is its ability to safely treat all skin tones—from very fair to deeper complexions.

Many lasers aren’t suitable for darker skin because they target pigment too aggressively. MOXI takes a different approach, using gentle non-ablative technology to support skin renewal without harming the surrounding tissue.

The Best Treatment for Melasma

MOXI is considered one of the safest and most effective laser treatments for those prone to melasma. Melasma is a common hormonal skin condition that can flare in pregnancy, but linger long after. This is a condition we can treat, but not cure. It can appear as brown or grayish-brown patches or even resemble freckles. It typically darkens and lightens over time, often getting worse in the summer and better in the winter.

While traditional laser treatments focus on the skin’s surface, MOXI laser penetrates deeper layers of the skin, targeting the root cause of melasma – excess melanin. MOXI is safe and effective for Melasma because it works differently than traditional lasers. Rather than aggressively targeting pigment—which can sometimes worsen melasma—MOXI uses a non-ablative approach that focuses on the water within the skin. In simple terms, this allows the skin to gradually renew itself without overstimulating pigment production.

What to Expect

MOXI is relatively quick with minor discomfort, as your provider will apply a medical-grade topical cream prior to treatment. Mild redness and flaking are common within the first 3-5 days post-treatment. It’s crucial to take care of your skin to maximize the results and prevent any complications. This includes avoiding sun exposure, wearing sunscreen daily, and using gentle skincare products. Your provider will send you home with after-care instructions and answer any questions you have, so you can feel confident in your healing journey!
