The natural aging process changes the skin in a number of ways, with visible signs including wrinkles, fine lines, lackluster tone, lost volume, and sagging. Although genetics play a role in how early your skin begins to show signs of aging, external factors such as sun exposure and smoking can cause premature aging. At our Maryville medical spa east of St. Louis, we can reverse and minimize signs of aging using various nonsurgical treatments.

Treatments for Aging Skin

Our med spa team creates customized treatment plans based on the specific concerns of each patient. There is no one-size-fits-all approach that can address the varied signs of aging skin. Wrinkles develop for different reasons, so BOTOX or dermal fillers (or both) may be the appropriate treatment. A custom facial may be recommended to refresh skin that shows early signs of aging, while skin with more severe sun damage may need a customized chemical peel.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

Wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead develop gradually as you change facial expressions. These “dynamic wrinkles” can be minimized with BOTOX or Dysport® injections. These treatments temporarily immobilize the facial muscles that contract when you smile, squint, frown, or change your expression in other ways.

Fillers

Wrinkles caused by the loss of tissue and, in some areas of the face, bone, are most commonly treated using injectable fillers. JUVÉDERM and Restylane are 2 of the most popular filler product lines. They are made using hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a substance that’s found naturally in the body. Our aesthetic specialists use fillers to replace volume by injecting JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® into the mid-face area, which can help lift sagging skin on the lower part of the face. Other fillers offered at our med spa include Restylane Lyft™ and Defyne™. Injectable fillers produce results immediately and, depending on the filler used, can last between 9 months and 2 years.

HydraFacial MD™

One of the most recent treatments offered at our med spa, HydraFacial can improve your skin’s rough texture and dryness with nutrient-rich serums that are delivered after cleansing and removing impurities.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra is considered a filler but works differently than JUVÉDERM, Restylane, and other fillers made using hyaluronic acid (HA), which provide almost immediate results. Sculptra is made with poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) and works more subtly and gradually, stimulating the skin to produce collagen to create a more youthful-looking appearance.

Microneedling

Our med spa specialists use the Eclipse MicroPen to perform microneedling, an increasingly popular treatment that triggers the body’s natural healing process to produce new collagen. The MicroPen creates tiny channels in the skin as fine needles penetrate the treatment area. Optimal results occur when we pair microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, a treatment that uses the nourishing growth factors from your own blood to help improve the appearance of your skin.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is less aggressive than dermabrasion, which essentially abrades away the skin’s outer layer. Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive exfoliating procedure that also stimulates the production of collagen to create smoother, tighter skin. It may not be the best approach for patients who also have rosacea or tiny red veins on their faces.

Dermaplaning

Carefully scraping away the outer skin layers and tiny facial hairs (often called “peach fuzz”) is a safe and effective way to create a refreshed complexion. Dermaplaning is a gentle, quick procedure that is often combined with a facial or chemical peel to enhance the results.

Custom Facials

Our customized facials offer something for everybody. They range from 30 to 60 minutes and address specific skin concerns, rejuvenating aging skin and adding a youthful glow to your complexion. Some of the facials produce the best results when paired with microdermabrasion or dermaplaning.

Custom Chemical Peels

Aging skin damaged by sun exposure and other environmental factors may respond well to a customized chemical peel. By adjusting the strength of the peel, we can address minor to significant aging in a way that meets your aesthetic goals.
