What Is the Difference Between Dysport/BOTOX and Fillers?

Patients primarily concerned about wrinkles and fine lines, such as crow’s feet, 11s (vertical lines between the eyebrows), and horizontal forehead lines, typically choose BOTOX & Dysport. If you want to add volume to facial features, however, dermal fillers may be the better choice. To get the most out of your facial rejuvenation, we also recommend a “liquid facelift” that combines both treatments.

The Spa at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery offers BOTOX and other neuromodulators, such as Dysport, Xeomin®, and Daxxify®. Neuromodulators temporarily freeze facial muscles to diminish and prevent wrinkles resulting from repetitive facial expressions like squinting and smiling.

We also offer popular hyaluronic acid-based fillers like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, which help restore volume to facial features such as sunken cheeks, tear troughs, a weakening jawline, or thin lips. Once artfully injected by our aesthetic experts, fillers help plump, sculpt, and refresh your skin. If you think of BOTOX as treating dynamic wrinkles, fillers target static wrinkles instead.

How Long Does BOTOX or Dysport Take To Work?

This is usually an important consideration for patients. BOTOX results typically appear within 3 to 5 days, but full results can take up to 2 weeks. Results appear gradually as the BOTOX binds to nerve endings and relaxes the targeted muscles.

Dysport, meanwhile, works slightly faster than BOTOX, with results appearing as soon as 2 to 4 days, and full results visible by around Day 10. This is due to Dysport’s thinner formulation and ability to spread more quickly. On the other hand, dermal filler results are typically immediate.

How Long Will BOTOX & Dysport Last?

BOTOX and Dysport typically last 3 to 4 months before the effects wear off as your body naturally metabolizes it. To maintain your wrinkle-free look, we recommend maintenance treatments about every 4 months.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Depending on the filler you choose and the area being treated, your results can last from 6 months to well over a year.  For example, lip filler typically lasts 6 months, while some JUVÉDERM formulations can last up to 2 years.
