1 Product That Will Change Your Skin!

Selecting the best regimen for your skin can be an overwhelming process. At The Spa at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, we are here to help assist you through the process and ensure we are targeting your specific skin concerns. Offering nearly 100 different options, we have products to suit every skin type and concern. Today we will be focusing on a must-have product in your regimen, retinoid.

Retinoids are made from concentrated levels of Vitamin A. Retinoids speed up the skin cell turnover process. Up until age 30, our skin cells turn over approximately once every 28 days. After age 30, this process slows down more and more each year and can take upwards of 45-90 days to turn over as we age.

This leads to more dull and dry skin to build up on the surface. This skin is less flexible/pliable than fresh, new skin; therefore, is more prone to wrinkling. One of the best topical ingredients you can use on your skin as an anti-wrinkle option is retinoids for this reason! In addition to targeting wrinkles, retinoids target the appearance of pores, discoloration, and blemishes.

Consistency is more important than strength! It is offered in different strengths in order to accommodate all skin types. For best results, you should use retinoid a minimum of 5x per week. If your skin is unable to tolerate this often, then we need to find the appropriate strength that your skin can tolerate on a nightly basis.

When transitioning retinoid into your nightly routine, it is normal to experience flaking for the first 2-4 weeks, specifically because of the fact mentioned above. It works to exfoliate the skin on a cellular level, so when first starting a retinoid all that built up skin usually visibly begins to shed. This is expected and is temporary. It is important to power through this “flaking” phase because it allows your skin to adjust to the product.

We carry SkinCeuticals 0.3-1.0 Retinol. You can purchase this by visiting our Glen Carbon, IL office or over the phone 618-307-6233. If you’d like to set up a one on one consultation with one of our aesthetic providers for an in depth consultation, call or text 618-307-6233.
